Recorded live at The Jazz Workshop in Boston in April 1967, The Sorcerer captures guitarist Gábor Szabó at the height of his powers. A veteran of Chico Hamilton's and Charles Lloyd's bands, Szabó brings a uniquely inventive and psychedelic sensibility to jazz guitar that set him apart from his contemporaries.

The album is a masterclass in stylistic range, weaving together jazz standards like "What Is This Thing Called Love," pop crossovers like "The Beat Goes On," and the sprawling original jam "Space" into a cohesive and captivating live experience. Reissued as part of Verve's celebrated By Request series, this release has been remastered by Kevin Reeves at East Iris Studios in Nashville and pressed on 180-gram audiophile vinyl at Third Man Pressing in Detroit.
