Vaginal Probiotic
Directions:
Active Treatment Phase:
Take 2 capsules orally daily with a meal as soon as you begin using your NeuEve suppositories (such as Yeast Clear, BV Clear, AV Clear). During this phase, avoid vaginal insertion of probiotics to ensure the suppository can work without interference.
Maintenance Phase:
Once your Yeast/BV/AV has cleared, you may insert 1 capsule vaginally once daily on the days you are not using a NeuEve maintenance suppository.
Why Each Species was Selected by Dr. Renjie Chang
A lot of effort went into carefully selecting each species. Here is the scientific basis for why each species was included, and why some species were excluded.
Lactobacillus acidophilus
L. acidophilus produces a bacteriocin protein that inhibits Gardnerella vaginalis, which causes BV. (Aroutcheva et al., 2001)
Lactobacillus plantarum
A study of 200 women showed that L. plantarum is safe and effective against yeast infections. There was no difference in results between L. plantarum inserted vaginally and an OTC antifungal treatment (Bertarello et al., 2024).
A review (Bui et al., 2025) of 73 studies explains how L. plantarum fights Staphylococcus aureus: L. plantarum makes bacteriocins that puncture bacterial cell walls.
A study of 40 mice (Kim et al, 2024) shows that L. plantarum alone was the strongest single lactobacilli against bacterial vaginosis. The mixtures of different species were stronger than single strains against BV; and this study showed that the mixtures with the highest level of L. plantarum were the strongest.
Lactobacillus rhamnosus
A study of 48 women with yeast infections were treated with antifungals, and then randomly given oral L. rhamnosus & L. acidophilus (or placebo). After 3 and 6 months, almost 100% of placebo group got recurrent yeast infections again, but only 30% of the L. rhamnosus & L. acidophilus group did (70% reduction) (Russo et al., 2018).
For fighting yeast infections and Candida, 14 different strains of Lactobacilli were tested. Out of all of them, L. rhamnosus was shown to be the strongest (Jørgensen et al., 2020)
Lactobacillus fermentum
Vaginally inserted L. fermentum and L. rhamnosus has been shown to reduce UTI recurrence from 6x per year to 1.6x per year. (Reid et al., 1987)
Lactobacillus reuteri
Out of 123 pregnant women in the 3rd trimester, half received oral L reuteri and L rhamnosus (Liu et al., 2020). L reuteri and L rhamnosus were shown to significantly reduce premature rupture of membrane, reduce the usage of
, and "significantly decreased the species abundance of Enterococcus, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus in the vaginal flora".
Two studies of mice (Shazadi et al., 2021 and Gregorio et al., 2014) showed that L. reuteri "prevented aerobic vaginitis by inhibiting the growth of E. faecalis" and helped "against vaginal colonization by Group B Streptococcus".
Why Lactobacillus Crispatus was NOT selected:
In a study of 75 women, 43 with cytolytic vaginosis, and 32 healthy women - the women with cytolytic vaginosis had microbiomes with 97.5% L. Crispatus, whereas healthy women only 40% of the microbiome was L. Crispatus. "The abundant growth of L. crispatus appears to be a key factor in the development of CV." (Xu et al., 2018)
These Lactobacilli probiotic strains produce lactic acid to support vaginal health and protect against yeast infections. Lactic acid balances the vaginal pH and keeps away harmful bacteria that cause odor and yeast infection. The broad diversity of bacterial species is much more resilient over time than a single species, especially for vaginal health.
